Effects of Intel’s Strategic Investment into UNIS on China’s Deployment for the Semiconductor Industry

In September 2014, Intel announced that it would purchase a 20% stake in China's UNIS, a state-owned enterprise invested by Tsinghua University, for US$1.5 billion. This year UNIS has acquired Chinese IC brand vendors Spreadtrum and RDA Microelectronics for US$1.7 billion and US$900 million, respectively. Alongside with Intel's investment strategy, it has indeed put a big boost to China's fabless IC industry.
