Chinese Home Appliance Industry and Market, August 2014

Chinese home appliance revenues witnessed over 10.8% year-on-year growth from January to July 2014, reaching 789 billion RMB (US$128 billion), while operating profits topped around 44 billion RMB (US$7.14 billion), up 23.3% year-on-year, according to China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology). Looking at production volume of home appliances from January to July 2014, about 100 million air conditioners were churned out, up 14.7% year-on-year. Meanwhile, 58.7 million home refrigerators were produced, up 3.4% year-on-year, while washing machines declined 2.5% year-on-year to 38.4 million units. During the same period, the proportion of home appliances sold was 96.7%, with a total export value of 203 billion RMB (US$33 billion), which represented 3.4% year-on-year growth.
