Published: Sep, 2011 | Pages: 184 | Publisher: SNS Research
Industry: Telecommunications And Wireless | Report Format: Electronic (PDF)

The cellular network is consists of cells, in which each cell has a cell site or a base station. The cell site distributes the network coverage, to send and/or receive data such as text messages, videos etc. The worldwide cellular network is reached across 222 nations & is divided between 809 operators.

A common cellular network uses a set of public switched telephone network, switched network, radio base stations, & packed switched network. Such common network manages to handover the calls to another operator if the user travels to a different cell.
The worldwide cellular networks market depends on the technologies of Long-term Evolution (LTE), Groupe Special Mobile (GSM), Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), IS-95, and CDMA2000 (Code-Division Multiple Access). Groupe Special Mobile (GSM) is a standard developed for explaining a set of protocols by the European Telecommunications Standard Institute.
The GSM network coverage depends upon various cell sizes, namely macro, femto, pico, umbrella, and micro. GSM uses a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card which allows users to maintain their basic user info & phonebook data.

CDMA2000, also called as IMT-CDMA Multi-Carrier is an IMT-2000 standard version by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), complies with the 3G network standards providing network coverage to CDMA-enabled phones in North America.
Long-term Evolution (LTE) is a standard for 4G networks. It is supported by cell phones that give coverage for various network frequencies. The other technology with the similar network managing capacity as LTE is Mobile WiMax.

The recent set of protocols followed by cellular networks is 4G & 3G technologies. Advantages of these two technologies include Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoIP) & unlimited wireless bandwidth. VoIP is further segmented into over-the-top (OTT) & Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE).

Lacking customer awareness levels pertaining to the latest technology can affect the worldwide cellular networks market.
Europe & North America are the major markets which are expected to maintain their market shares due to the ability to adapt latest technology. Asia-Pacific possesses the highest growth potential, for 3G and 4G based networks.

Samsung, Motorola, Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei, and Nokia Siemens Network are some of the prominent and recognized companies working in the worldwide cellular networks market.
