The mixing of gas and liquid is performed mainly for mass transfer; for example, in air stripping process, gas is utilized to take out all the volatiles from a liquid. The gas-liquid mixing pumps are a great solution in today's industrial marketplace. It has revolutionized a number of industries such as livestock production, wastewater, oil & gas, as well as separation technology.

Centrifugal pumps are generally used for the pure liquids’ transport. But, this liquid purity ideal is not often found in actual working circumstances. For this, specialized multiphase pumps are more suitable and convenient than the conventional technology of tanks & compressors. Multiphase pumps are designed mainly as two-screw rotary or multistage rotodynamic machines that can consume 90% to 100% gas by volume. Moreover, multiphase pumps can send the raw effluent over long-distances making them a probable cost-efficient solution for the development of remote or small fields.

Pumping gas & crude oil without earlier separation significantly decreases the required platform space & machinery. However, low costs of oils have limited development of subsea multiphase pumping (MPP). Thus, the future prospects depend on the results of ongoing MPP projects as well as on whether & when sufficient MPP experience & skills can be gathered to make users aware and confident about various cost-effective advantages that MPP can offer.
